The Enhanced Language Training (ELT) Program for Internationally Educated Health Professionals

This is a part-time workplace communication program for internationally educated pharmacists. Classes are held twice a week.

Eligibility

If you are a pharmacist educated outside of Canada, you are eligible!

Course dates & times:

Start dates are subject to change based on class enrolment.

  • Toronto
    - June 7 to August 18, 2011 (Tuesdays and Thursdays 9am to 12pm) or
    - June 6 to August 22, 2011 (Mondays and Tuesdays 6pm to 9pm – Aug 1st is a holiday)
  • Toronto
    - October 4 to December 8, 2011 (Tuesdays and Thursdays 9am to 12pm) or
    - October 3 to December 12, 2011 (Mondays and Wednesdays 6pm to 9pm – Oct 10th is a holiday)

This language training course is not intended to be an alternative to Canadian Pharmacy Skills. This is an English-as-a-Second-Language course which will help you improve your English language skills so that you can:

  • Communicate more effectively in a pharmacy job environment
  • Increase your scores in English language tests (TOEFL, CANTest, IELTS) to meet the fluency requirements for admission to Canadian Pharmacy Skills, and for licensing by the Ontario College of Pharmacists

During this course, you will:

  • Share your professional knowledge of pharmacy in an English-language context
  • Meet and network with other international pharmacists
  • Practise job interview and workplace communication skills

Reading

  • Read current articles from newspapers and professional journals on pharmacy- and health-related topics
  • Read about and discuss "hot" issues in pharmacy
  • Enhance your reading skills and increase your vocabulary

Writing

  • Write emails for workplace communication
  • Prepare written materials for job search (resume, cover letter, thank you letter, etc.)

Speaking

  • Make presentations to your peers on topics related to your professional knowledge
  • Hone your customer service and telephone skills
  • Learn and practice strategies for the TSE and other tests of spoken English

Listening

  • Improve your listening comprehension skills using authentic pharmacy and health-related materials.
