The Enhanced Language Training (ELT) Program for Internationally Educated Health Professionals
This is a part-time workplace communication program for internationally educated pharmacists. Classes are held twice a week. EligibilityIf you are a pharmacist educated outside of Canada, you are eligible! |
Course dates & times:
Courses are offered at various locations across the GTA. Applications to Fall 2009 will be made available soon. Start dates are subject to change based on class enrolment.

Course fee:
Course fee: $105 (including GST). The cheque should be made payable to University of Toronto. Please indicate on the memo field that this payment is for the ELT course, and ensure that your name appears on the cheque.
If you decide not to take the class, you are eligible for a refund if you notify the office before the 3rd class. There is a $25 administration fee. No refunds will be provided to students who drop the course after the 3rd class.

This language training course is not intended to be an alternative to Canadian Pharmacy Skills. This is an English-as-a-Second-Language course which will help you improve your English language skills so that you can:
- Communicate more effectively in a pharmacy job environment
- Increase your scores in English language tests (TOEFL, CANTest, IELTS) to meet the fluency requirements for admission to Canadian Pharmacy Skills, and for licensing by the Ontario College of Pharmacists
During this course, you will:
- Share your professional knowledge of pharmacy in an English-language context
- Meet and network with other international pharmacists
- Practise job interview and workplace communication skills
Reading
- Read current articles from newspapers and professional journals on pharmacy- and health-related topics
- Read about and discuss "hot" issues in pharmacy
- Enhance your reading skills and increase your vocabulary
Writing
- Write emails for workplace communication
- Prepare written materials for job search (resume, cover letter, thank you letter, etc.)
Speaking
- Make presentations to your peers on topics related to your professional knowledge
- Hone your customer service and telephone skills
- Learn and practice strategies for the TSE and other tests of spoken English
Listening
- Improve your listening comprehension skills using authentic pharmacy and health-related materials.
